Log One

As with all of the bloggers in out there, one must start somewhere so here I go. Saying that i live the life that many people might dream of and want to do, but never take the step in life. I decided to step outside the "norm" about two years back when I moved to the Dominican Republic working as a Dive Instructor. It has been a lifestyle as I would tell most. You don't get rich but you get to live and experience places most only dream of. I left the DR after about six months on the search for my next great adventure. This landed me here in Bonaire where I have been for the past year. The Island has been great in many ways and in others not so much.

After my last visit to the states many changes have taken place in my life. I went to Baltimore to pick up my sailboat with all intentions of making the 1800 mile journey to Bonaire. The trip turned to be one of many surprises. Tina my now girlfriend flew out to me in Baltimore a few days after my arrival. The excitement that I was feeling was unreal as I had strong feelings for her prior to her arrival. Picking her up at the airport was both exciting and nerve-racking, but when she finally walk through security it was amazing! From that point on i was falling and falling fast. We had a wonderful weekend and then she left, dropping her off at the airport was so hard. After a few days of waiting to getting little fixes done on my boat like the sunbrella on on both my Jib sheet and my Staysail. We thought we were ready to set sail. Thought is the key word, the head on the boat started to act up earlier in the week and both my father and I thought we had it fixed but oh we were wrong. This turned out to be the story of the first week of the trip taking it apart more than 12 times in total. I think that both of us could start a head rebuilding company as we are now experts. Finally we ended up replacing the entire unit. After all of the little stories of the trip we ended up pulling into Charleston South Carolina to take a rest after 4 day offshore. Pulling in the engine killed and luckily i we still had a sail up but had to turn down wind in order to keep us moving. I had to replace the fuel filter and get the engine running again. We parked the boat and i fully replaced the fuel filters started it up and sparks started to fly from the alternator. So i pulled it off to get tested thinking this is a problem that i going to fix all of our electrical/ battery problems we were having. Well a few days later it came back with nothing wrong when i was putting it back on i found culprit of my problem a wire had came off and was shorting out. All was fixed now, but I was scheduled to be in Bonaire in three days! Well that was not going to happen, all in the mean time I had found out that everyone at work was taking the step we all spoke about for months a mass walk out. So me being one that was really ready to leave my ass of a boss booked a ticket and flew down gave him my notice of resignation. I am so excited to find something new, right now saturday is my last day of work until i find a new job. Tina is coming down and i am going to finish her open water certification and just relax and spend time with one and other. The next few weeks are looking bright an amazing girl and no plans for the near future totally something I am known for flying by the seat of my pants.
